Celebrating ECOWAS Day 2025: Building a Brighter Future Together

Gender Priority Strategy (GEPS) joins the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in celebrating another milestone anniversary. Since its inception, ECOWAS has been a beacon of cooperation, facilitating free movement, promoting trade, and working collectively on security challenges to improve citizens' lives.

This year's celebration carries special significance as GEPS reflects on the role of gender equality in regional integration and development. Strong, integrated communities require the full participation of women in decision-making, economic activities, and peace-building efforts across West Africa.

GEPS has been working with ECOWAS member states to strengthen gender-responsive policies and programs that benefit women and girls throughout the region. Our research shows that when women are empowered economically and politically, entire communities prosper and development becomes more sustainable.

As we mark ECOWAS Day 2025, let us recommit ourselves to the ideals of regional cooperation while ensuring gender equality remains central to our collective vision. Let's strengthen partnerships, embrace innovation, and work together to address challenges and seize opportunities. A stronger, more integrated West Africa that includes women at every level benefits us all. Happy ECOWAS Day!
